If you're planning on kicking it at SXSW this year, be sure to check out the official Green Label Sound Showcase at Lucille on 77 Rainey St. in Austin, Texas. The party happens over two evenings, March 14th-15th, and will feature different lineups each night. Thursday night showcases a full spread of DJs including RL Grime, Brenmar, and Venus X to kick off the event nicely.  On Friday evening, Dyme-A-Duzin and Earl Sweatshirt (w/ Captain Murphy) will open it up for headliners Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era along with DJ Premier, who'll provide us with the live debut of "Unorthodox!" This event is 21+ and for SXSW badge/wristband holders. Admission based capacity.

We're excited to announce that Joey Bada$$ and his New York City-based rap crew Pro Era will head out on the Beast Coastal Tour presented by Green Label Sound this spring, joined by DJ Statik Selektah and Brooklyn's own Beast Coast brothers Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers. The 20+ date North American tour kicks off in Portland on 3/21 and will wrap in NYC at the Gramercy Theatre on 4/20, a concert in honor of late Pro Era co-founder Capital STEEZ.

Hip-hop circles were buzzing when we announced an upcoming collaboration between Joey Bada$$ and legendary producer DJ Premier. After several months of anticipation, Green Label Sound is proud to announce the track “Unorthodox”. The young Brooklyn MC got hip-hop heads talking with the release of his debut mixtape 1999 (via Cinematic Music Group), as it echoed the vintage New York sound of the late 90’s. With their increasing following, Joey Bada$$ and this Pro Era crew are quickly becoming hip-hop’s brightest young stars.

The partnership between Bada$$ and Premo made perfect sense as both artists’ styles complemented each other well. On Joey, Premo said, “His music moved me in a way where its like ‘Oh, I like his attitude, I like how’s he coming across; it reminds me of how we felt at his age and how I feel now.”  Bada$$ claimed Gang Starr’s Moment of Truth as one of his biggest influences, and from listening to “Unorthodox” you can hear how seamless his flow fits over Premier’s signature boom bap sound. Representing his Pro Era team and borough proudly, Bada$$ effortlessly rhymes well beyond his years and in a manner many would consider “unorthodox” in hip-hop’s current state.

RAC has built a loyal global following in the dance and pop genres by releasing a long line of catchy remixes. It's only fitting that the very first original track from RAC, Hollywood (featuring Penguin Prison), would be so remix ready. Some serious dancing went down this past weekend at Brooklyn Bowl, as Green Label Sound and RAC presented a special two-night event with acts curated by and featuring RAC. The first night featured Jeffrey Jerusalem of YACHT spinning and then Body Language put on a high energy live performance on the second night. The Bowl was packed and crowd could not stop moving if they tried.

By the way, the photo-booth saw much action, so if you came to the event and took a picture, tag yourself on the Green Label Sound Facebook page. On the other  hand, if you didn't go to the show or take a picture, check out the Facebook page anyways for a few laughs.

The official video for the original single from RAC, "Hollywood featuring Penguin Prison" is now out. This cinematic visual for the song follows the story of a true 1850's cowboy who has been misplaced in modern day Los Angeles. He misses home and longs for familiarity in the midst of the confusing circumstances. We won't spoil the end but the video features RAC founder himself, André Allen Anjos, actress Rose McGowan, and Penguin Prison's Chris Glover.
